ALEKS, an online, self-paced, math teaching program, will be piloted in a 4th grade classroom starting Jan 2005.

Grades 1-2 will have Math Enrichment in the 2005-2006 school year.

MTSD elementary ed math department recently met to brainstorm teaching techniques, activities, and materials on how to teach students who are identified for math enrichment.  A MAX-ED article on this meeting is coming soon.

Mr Manno is thinking about some kind of end-of-the year enrichment meeting to review how well 2004-2005 enrichment program worked.

John and Karen kumpf were intereviewd by the Bergen County Record for an article on the gifted eduction in NJ.

NJ Educators Conference

SIG is proud to invite New Jersey area parents, teachers and administrators to our 22nd Annual Gifted Education Conference. Please join us on Friday October 29, 2004 at the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ for Emerging Conceptions of Talent Development Keynote speaker Dr. Rena Subotnik will examine the role of personality in talent development. Additional breakout sessions will address new approaches and views of gifted education issues in light of the latest research and practices in the field. Reservations are required. SIG is also proud to co sponsor two additional October conferences. On Friday, October 8, 2004, we will co-sponsor an educators conference with Rowan University at the Holiday Inn Select at Bridgeport, New Jersey. Dr. Jack Naglieri, from George Mason University, will give the keynote address entitled "The Influence of Traditional Concepts of Intelligence on Minority Representation in Gifted Programs". He will also present a workshop on the use and interpretation of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Tests. Additional workshops will discuss the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, the National Society for Gifted and Talented, interactive internet education, and instructional strategies for teaching the gifted in the regular classroom. SIG is also pleased to be a supporting sponsor for the New England Conference on Gifted and Talented Education, Friday and Saturday, October 15 and 16, 2004 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel and Spa in Groton, Connecticut. The conference, entitled "Gateways to Excellence", will feature 89 workshops and keynote presentations by Dr. Robert Ballard, scientist and explorer, Faith Middleton, Peabody Award-winning journalist and NPR host, Carlos Hernandez Chavez, human issues advocate, and Reg Green, who established the NAGC Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award.
