(Informal)

MAX-ED is having their next meeting Mon, 6/20, at Valerie Vieth's house. She lives at 51 Titus Rd. You can get to Titus off Skillman. From Orchard Hill, make a R on Burnt Hill Rd, then L on Skillman, then R on Titus.

Brng the kids. We'll have several games on hand for them to play.

Parents can play w/ kids, or socialize. But please also bring your Enrichment Program Survey that you should have received in back-pack mail. If not, we'll have copies on hand Mon night, or you can dl and print a copy here <enrichment.program.survey.2005.pdf>. We would like to look back together at our year in the Enrichment Program, compare notes, and fill our our surveys. We might have an opportunity to coordinate our message to the district.

The survey is very important for you to fill out. It's one of our primary ways to give feedback to the district on the program. It's hard to get the district to listen to us, but with this survey...they're listening.

An Evening Focusing on Academic Excellence

For Parents and Kids

Nathan Levy

to speak to Parents on "How to Help Your Kids Read, Write and Think Better"

Dan "The Science Man" Weissman

Educates and Entertains Kids

MAX-ED offers to our community this opportunity to learn more about Academic Excellence in our schools. Let's help our kids achieve all they can in school.

As our mission statement (on the <max-ed.org> home page) says, MAX-ED is an advocacy organization consisting of the parents of academically talented students. These students require modified curriculum to meet their larger academic needs. We collaborate with the Montgomery School District as part of the continual curriculum improvement process so that these kids' academic needs can be met at the highest level.

But even though our advocacy is for a specialty population, our event on 5/21/2005 is for everyone. As our name implies, we aim for academic excellence in all forms. Academic excellence is an idea that applies to every student, every district, and every curriculum option. It also happens to be just what the Dr ordered for our academically talented students.

So, an event like ours on 5/21 serves two purposes: it's a way that we can offer parent education to our community. And it's a way to teach our MAX-ED parents what they need to know.

Nathan Levy will speak to Parents on "How to Help Your Kids Read, Write and Think Better." We've explained to Mr Levy the type of curriculum we have here in Montgomery Twp and Mr Levy will including advice on how transfer his teachings your child's classroom environment. The most effective way to do this is in a collaborative, cooperative, yet persistent relationship w/ your child's teacher.

Dan Weismann for Kids will perform chemical and physical science experiments chosen to visually dazzle his young audience. As he entertains, he teaches the underlying chemical and physical principles that make the experiments work. Dan shows kids firsthand how interesting the world around is.

We've heard these gentlemen speak before, and we hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

MAX-ED is an non-profit organization. In fact at this early stage we have no income, assets, or money. Everything we do is paid for by funds we collect around the time of the event. For example, we are charging a fee tonight to cover our expenses only.
